The Girls’ New Bedroom Plans

kids bunk beds - girls bedroom

Since our move my younger girls have had many tearful moments about missing their old bedroom. I don’t blame them! Bedrooms are full of familiarity and favorite things when you are little. It is your own world inside your home. Also didn’s hurt that it was a bonus room we converted, so it was very large! I have been working on their shared bedroom plans to make it feel more like their old room with a few new twists.

Moodboards are always the easiest way for me to make decisions on colors and other elements of the room! I pin everything to a pinterest board to see things next to each other, and narrow down from there. For this room, I wanted to keep some of the main pieces we already had, and add a neutral wallpaper to the mix. We also needed different lighting options.

Scalloped chair (similar)
Desk
Vintage art prints
Pull down shades
Curtains
Sconces

scallop bunk bed DIY

Since we had sold a lot of the furniture in our last home to make the move easier, we needed bunk beds right away. This was our first project in this room. We added a scallop trim to a standard bunk bed set, and spray painted the whole piece. I just swapped out the pulls in the drawers, and these details make it feel like a custom set for the room! You can read the steps for the full DIY here.

I ordered a few wallpaper samples from Sandberg Wallpaper, and the Olaf pattern was exactly what I was hoping for! It is a timeless pattern that could work for both a whimsical children’s room, but also as they grow older – a more sophisticated design. I started installing the wallpaper in the fall, but we ran into a few other priorities….including my first trimester of pregnancy;) I am looking forward to finishing up the wallpaper and installing some new sconces. It already has made the room feel so cozy and more like an imaginative space for the girls. (Veronica will be moving into her own room this fall so we will be working on her room together!)

I found a desk that looks like a muted yellow at an antique store, and will be adding some fun scalloped curtains as well. We still have some crown molding and paint work to do, but this room had a great start using what we already had. Looking forward to pulling it all together!
