Boys Room Reveal

One of the reasons we fell for this house was the unfinished basement. We saw so much potential things we could do with the space. We really wanted the boys to have a large open room to share as they grew up together. I was far from an easy process, but we finally finished up their bedroom over the holidays, and now it’s everyone’s desired place to hang. Seeing it come to life from it’s concrete floors and insulated wall beginnings was such a long, but rewarding process. We have loved the extra space, and needed it especially during these cold months. This boys bedroom design stayed pretty close to our original design board. All sources are linked below. Here are a few progress photos! We used beadboard on the walls which was an easy and inexpensive way to add texture to the walls..

Wow, it’s incredible, great job! I especially love the boys’ framed art work! And the framed maps are perfect. Azelie crawling through the room in her little tights is of course the best part of the whole post! ?

Can you share what/how you did the wall with the white panels? I love love love it but wouldn’t even know where to start to do that to a wall!

  Hello Meghan. They are 4ft by 8 ft “beadboard” wall panels that are easily trimmed/installed, and can found at any large hardware store: Lowes, Home Depot, Menard’s, etc. We first installed drywall panels, then installed the beadboard over the drywall. This not only gave more stability/strength to the board, but also made it easier to install the board in a more flat/uniform way. They can be installed over drywall using an adhesive or with finishing nails, just keep in mind that they are much harder to remove down the road if adhesive is used. Be sure to install the boards under the wall baseboard, and use a caulk or thin trim at the wall corners and ceiling to hide any small gaps that may remain after installation. We used a “shoe molding” to hide such gaps at the wall corners and ceiling. The sides of the beadboards were also trimmed to insure that all seams between the individual beadboards were located within the creased texture lines. This made hiding the seams much easier. After the beadboards are installed, baseboards are installed (or reinstalled) over the beadboards and shoe molding is installed, fill any nail holes with a moulding/trim sealant (such as “DAP Alex Flex”) and paint.     This was so helpful! I’ve always loved beadboard but I’m wondering if this style is wider than the traditional. The “planks” seem wider than normal and I love that!

Truly amazing transformation. And I’m currently in love with the color blue so I love both the couch you repurposed from another room and the wall color. Great choices! Also, can you please give me a link or the name of the teal blue rug in your living room? I tried the link you already have but it goes to a different rug than yours (one that is much lighter and not as lovely).
