Our Bedroom Renovation Reveal

bedroom makeover - primary bedroom design

We just wrapped our bedroom renovation, and it’s time for a little before and after fun. I had Augustine in our room till he was almost 8 months old so it was never a convenient time to paint and move things around. We never prioritize our bedroom since we are only in there at night, but what an incredible difference it makes to have a peaceful retreat to breathe in! After thinking through how to work with some of our old furniture pieces, I made some design plans to put in motion. Excited to share the outcome….

After

I always underestimate the mental difference of what decluttering a room can do! Just deep cleaning and moving things out felt like a lifted weight. (I’m looking at you clothes chair.) We then removed all of the old carpet in our upstairs we installed LVP in the rooms. That immediately made the room feel like new!

DIY wall molding

The next step was painting and wall molding. I wanted a little color in our room, but since our vaulted ceilings go through to the bathroom I decided to keep it a light color. (We didn’t want to deal with painting the ceiling.) I ultimately chose the “Painted Sands” by Benjamin Moore since it is a nice peachy blush tone. I also decided to test out some decorative wood pieces this time, and I really love the extra detail and dimension it adds to the main wall. Gabe shared a DIY wall molding post here, and these are the decorative corner pieces we applied using wood glue!

Since we are keeping our black dresser and desk, I chose the rest of the room pieces to compliment. The rug is a design by my friend Angela Rose for Loloi. It was just the color combo I was looking for. Some beautiful neutral and blush tones mixed with creams and blues. I love how soft it is as well. (This is the rug pad I used underneath for added padding.)

We were able to work with small business Primrose on our bed frame. They hand craft and deliver the most beautiful furniture pieces all over the country. This is the Ryan bed frame (king size) in the stain Ember. It is made of solid Ash wood. We were able to request a custom bed post height as well. It is beautifully made, and I know this will last us for years!

I was determined to find nightstands on FB marketplace, but they seem to be a hot commodity! I finally gave up and hunted online. I was able to find these wood nightstands by Safavieh (also available on Birch Lane), and to my relief they are just as beautiful in person. They look like restoration hardware pieces, but for a lot less. They have a more lacquered finish which I love because you don’t have to worry about drink rings or scratches as much.

how to hang curtains on arched windows

If you have ever wondered how to address odd window set ups, we have a whole guide to hanging curtains that covers a range of scenarios. For this arched window set up I used two pairs of curtains. One 90 in. pair (one panel on each side), and one 108 in. pair for the center arch. I wanted semi-sheer panels since we have light blocking shades already so it would be more of a light and airy feel. I used this curtain rod on all 4 windows in a few different lengths. (Always measure your windows! I made the mistake of guessing and got the size wrong initially.) While I would have loved to case out the windows and do custom curtains, it wasn’t in our time frame or budget right now.

Feels incredibly peaceful to walk into our room right now, and I am tempted to camp out there for the foreseeable future. I hope Gabe and I can work on renovations and design projects until we are old and grey, but I admit that I am relieved to take a break for a bit! If possible, would you fix the link to the rug pad? Currently, it is not a link at all.

Thanks so much. I am interested in getting rug pads for area rugs.
