Family Travels: Nashville, TN

August 3, 2017

*In partnership with Airbnb.

We had a family event in Nashville, TN last week so we decided to stay a little longer to enjoy the city and wait for my new niece to arrive! We found a modern farmhouse that fit all of us comfortably plus room for more. Here’s a little tour of the place, as well as some of the Nashville spots we enjoyed..

One of the things I really appreciate about Airbnbs, is that it allows my kids to adjust easier to travel since it is a home environment. We don’t have to eat out as much, we don’t have to worry about them being too loud (hotels can sometimes be daunting in that regard!), and they have room to play together. We cooked breakfast in this farmhouse, explored the city in the morning, and would come back to the house for nap times. After everyone gets down time and moods are re-shifted, eating out for dinner is much more feasible;)

There are so many good spots around Nashville, and a good deal of them are family friendly. We avoided lots of the smaller shops and coffee spots with our whole crew, but I was able to sneak away for a few catch up dates with gal pals.

Hewitt Garden and Design Center – This is in Franklin, a little outside of the city, but worth the drive. It is one of the largest garden centers I have seen, and certainly the most enchanting! Rows of greenhouses full of every kind of plant you can think of. Gabe and I both found some cool things we wanted to take home.

Amelia’s Flower Truck – You can find these three trucks at different spots each weekend throughout the city.

Little Octopus – Took home all kinds of design ideas from a brief coffee date with a friend inside Little Octopus. How about that plant ledge and pink midcentury seating? Swoon.

12 South – I’ve highlighted a few places here before, but it was fun to take the kids this time around. We had some pretty memorable BBQ at Edley’s which is super family friendly. Long lines, but it was well worth the wait! Across the street we caught Blue Monkey Shaved Ice truck parked in front of Imogene + Willie, which was pretty much the highlight of the trip for my kids. Another morning we ate lunch at Sevier park, and afterwards walked over to the famous Las Paletas. There are multiple shops and restaurants on this side of 12 South so it’s worth spending a morning there.

Cafe Roze – Gabe and I got to catch up with Elsie and Jeremy Larson who introduced us to Cafe Roze. It’s a small and delicious spot on East Nashville.

Food Trucks – There are so many food trucks throughout this city. A mile from the house was I Dream of Weenie which is a stationary food truck we tried out one night. We picked up hot dogs and brought them back to the Airbnb’s back patio for dinner. I vote for the chili dog!

There are so many restaurants that have live music, or parks with concerts in Nashville. Probably why I am drawn to it so much! There was even hot air balloon festival going on while we were there. We considered moving to Nashville for a while, but my family all moved back to Atlanta. So for now, weekend visits do the trick;)

Have you been to this southern gem of a city? What were some of your favorite spots?
