Advent Calendar Crush.

November 21, 2016

holidays

Posted 09/12

Advent starts this weekend, and I readily admit I am a tad ambitious when it comes to advent calendars. I find them all so enticing as they represent a time of waiting, hope, and inner change. I thought I would share a few new ones I found this year if you are looking to add one to your traditions…

advent calendar

This illustrated advent calendar caught my eye, as it is visually stunning. Even better, it has a verse written on the back for each day you pull a card. Since advent is a spiritual experience for our family, I am excited to use this one as part of our bedtime routine this advent. You can find this one on etsy from Coley Created shop.

My children’s favorite is the christmas book advent calendar. We put away all the christmas books till December, wrap them up, and open one each day for story time before bed leading up to Christmas Day. (Photo from last year’s advent.)

We just added this knitted one to the mix, because I couldn’t resist the pockets. I think I will fill this one with ornaments or little chocolates. My mom always had a chocolate filled one for us, and it brings me many sweet memories. Also love this boxed village advent calendar and this red clothespin one for packages!

What do you fill your advent calendars with? I love hearing about different holiday traditions from around the world.

These are all so fun! We made our first advent calendar last year, and it’s a fun tradition I want to keep up each year!

  3. Some of my best Christmas memories were the Advent Calendar my godmother put together for us as children each year. Each day was filled with chocolates and then a quote about the Nativity or Christmas. It was one of the highlights of our days as children while we waited for Christmas to come!

  4. Colleen

    says:

I love the cards arranged like a tree. What kind of tape did you use? Will it come of the cards without tearing?

  5. Kathleen

    says:

A couple of years ago I splurged on a beautiful white lighted tree from West Elm and that has become our Jesse Tree… (I found a kit to make wooden ornaments on Etsy) and that is a favorite family tradition.

  6. Ruth

    says:

Thanks for the ideas, Anna! Any kids Christmas books you love? I’m planning to do the book one this year and am always looking for more good books!

  7. Amanda

    says:

We have a chocolate, part of the nativity story, and a card describing something to do that day: either a Christmas activity(baking cookies, visiting Santa, Christmas caroling, etc) or a Christmas “help” (making cards for soldiers, handing out candy canes to adults in our neighborhood, picking up trash at our park, etc).

  8. Eileen Dougherty

    says:

Oh my these are so great! I will definitely be borrowing the book idea, love it

  9. Charmaine Ng says:

The knitted calendar looks so good! I’m looking to get a unique, out of the box one for this year (my first advent calendar!), so I’ll check that out. Thanks for the recommendations!
