Dresser Makeover using Removable Wallpaper

January 26, 2016

dresser makeover

We have some old dressers around here in need of some TLC, but I wasn’t quite up for a full overhaul. Have you seen all the fun removable wallpaper prints and murals from Walls Need Love? I have worked with removable wallpaper before, so I knew it’s sticky side was pretty easy to manage. However, I could still use some practice on cutting straight lines! Read on for the easy instructions for a dresser makeover using removable wallpaper.

step one and two

I picked out some tropical prints for this wooden dresser, and decided to try a bold makeover. I used banana leaf for the exterior and bananas to line the inside of the drawers, because why not? Here is the three step process:

  1. Clean the surfaces with a multi-purpose cleaner and let dry.
  2. Measure out your paper over your surface by laying paper across and creasing edges around to mark edges to cut. (I removed the knobs first.)
  3. Cut paper and slowly peel and press across your surface.

before and after

I promise it is super easy to apply and remove, and took approximately 15 minutes total to line the outside of the drawers, and 15 minutes to line the inside of the drawers.

Tip: Use a plastic pan scraper to spread across the paper to remove air bubbles! Walls Need Love also has a whole array of stripe rolls I am hoping to experiment with next. It’s a fun change to your furniture, and easier to use than paint. I went ahead and lined our entryway dresser as well with these gold dots. This dresser is where I like to store the little ones shoes, hats and gloves, sunglasses, records, etc. There are so many cool possibilities you could use this paper for, and I’d love to see what you come up with! Be sure to share your photos if you give it a try.
