Family Threads vol. 2: Preparing for the family shift
She has been a mama’s girl lately. She just wants me to hold her more often, and gets an extra dimpled toothy grin whenever I devote undivided attention to her. She has become miss independent…so confident and proud whenever she tries something new. She wants to do everything her brother does and they are best buds. My heart is starting to ache a little more when I hold her and watch her grow.
I feel the time shifting, and I know I have to get ready to let go of the fact that she won’t be the baby much longer…
I went through this with Gabriel before she arrived. A short period of sadness knowing he would be my baby only for a few more months and that his little world would change. I cried many tears, mourned a little, and squeezed him extra tight. I remember vividly the strong emotion of saying goodbye as I dropped him off at my sisters before heading to the hospital to have his little sister…I felt the change of my first born son stepping into a new time in this all to fleeting life.
It is harder on me than it is for them, but what sweetens it all is seeing them now together…..how they greet each other in the morning with lots of kisses and hugs…..how Gabriel is makes sure Veronica has everything she needs and reassuring me he is “protecting his little sister”…. seeing Veronica pat his head and babble like Gabriel is her dear friend….he will attend her tea parties….she will play with his train station….and watching their daily dance parties go down in the family room. I see their lifetime of friendship unfolding and I am thankful.
As I get ready to bring a whole new life into our family, I accept the sadness as a side effect of my deep love for my sweet baby girl, and know that soon I will have reason to wonder how we ever did without this new one.

I kinda know what your feeling! It’s the weirdest thing that I honestly feel like I would be “cheating” on my son if we ever had another baby. I love him so much and wouldn’t know how I could love another equally. I know it’s possible but I can’t imagine it right now. Ha :You are so adorable and so tiny!! 🙂 xo
Oh, this brought on the tears. Transition is a difficult thing and I know I will feel as you do when we are blessed with another Little One. It’s amazing how everyone, including the kiddos, sense it and adapt; with so much love. Great pictures of all of you – I love the brights on everyone, it makes me long for Spring! xo

Funny, for all 5 of my kids, I never felt sad that the current baby would be getting “replaced”. I always thought about the gift I was giving them – the gift of a sibling. Now, I definitely shed a few tears while pregnant because I would wonder how I was going to handle everything! But in the end it all turn out better than planned 🙂 You all look adorable, as always!

I think you are so normal! I don’t know if you have experienced this before, but I actually will have days where I just really really “miss” my oldest (who is only 4) and just need some time with her alone. I think the twins consume so much of my attention that maybe it’s just my hearts way of reminding me to nurture that love for her as well. I don’t know. It’s weird how our hearts grow and are able to love so much, but yet we still have moments of nostalgia for a previous stage of life.
Very sweet. Your family is so incredibly cute! I can only imagine the comfort and love you feel seeing your two little ones so closely bonded. I’m sure that baby #3 will share that bond with them also. 🙂
Despite all your bittersweet feelings, I am sure your kids wouldn’t want you to worry about anything, but just fast forward their little sibling to life, so they can play as a trio 🙂 Let me tell you how sweet this photo session is. Your kids are both at the cutest phase and you look just radiant. I especially love the bond between them, it must make you happy and proud to the sky 🙂
