True Beauty Files : Lace and Leather

True Beauty Files

Posted 09/12

{Utility vest: ON (out of stock but similar here), Lace tunic: c/o PB&J Boutique, Leather leggings: Nordstrom, Shoes: Zara (similar), Tote: H&M, Bracelet stack: c/o Angel Wings Accessory, Necklace: BMB}
I am almost whispering to you that I am indeed wearing leather leggings.
Going out of my comfort zone yet again and sharing with the general public. I may regret this later…. However, surprisingly comfortable and versatile, these leggings will most likely make a reappearance.
Style Word: May I just get this off my chest….leggings are not pants, hence they must be styled with caution! Raise your hand if you have seen leggings styled with a short shirt. Unfortunate, right? It just reveals TMI if you know what I mean. I feel so much better now that I have been able to share my distress over this matter;) Long tunics like this lace one, or an oversized sweater are great balance of length to pair them with, as well as a good pair of boots:)
Seen any fashion faux pas lately?? Do tell.
Hope you all had a great weekend!
Love, Anna

The True Beauty Files
A lookbook for the modern modeste.
“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years.”
~ Audrey Hepburn

  1. This outfit is perfect. I could NEVER pull it off, but you look absolutely amazing, Anna!

  2. Lace and leather make such fashionable companions;-)

  3. I love your outfit. I’ve been eyeing that vest from ON for a while! Also, I agree whole-heartedly about the leggings not being pants, so they need to be styled accordingly.

  4. Camille says:

I’ve seen worse…tights standing in as pants. Sheer tights. Yikes! Yes, of course it shoes too too much…but it is also just does nothing for the person wearing them :-/.

I have seen many more faux pauxs , but I’ll stick to that one! Haha. 😉

    Cheers.

  5. Camille says:

ps. those leggings are a definite win, anna! i want to find some now!

  6. Martina says:

Looks good on you Anna! Yes, leggings – i see so many women wear them in an unortunate way, but i like them with a tunic or little dress sometimes, like you!

  7. Audra says:

I love your comment about the leggings! I have super long legs and I have found it more difficult to find shirts/dresses long enough to go with them. When in doubt, I put on my skinnies!

  8. Julie says:

Looking fab Miss. Anna! And I’m searching for a great pair of leggings but haven’t had much luck. The search continues.

  9. Amy says:

i agree that leggings are not pants!

    loving your leather pants!

p.s. your bangs are looking awesome!

  11. Wow…you can definitely pull off that look. I love the style and texture combinations. You are always so smiley 🙂 Have a great week

  12. christin says:

i want to get leather leggings/pants but i’m afraid my legs are going to get so hot and then i won’t be able to get them off. i know, it’s seriously irrational. but you look so great in them!

  13. anto says:

Oh, I see leggings as pants way too often and it makes me want to go through a blanket on them. I think you styled the trend perfectly and I like the leather and lace contrast 🙂

  14. Well, this is perfection! I and completely agree. leggings are not pants!

  15. Well, this is perfection! I and completely agree. leggings are not pants!

  16. Brooke says:

leggings are definitely not pants! One fashion faux pauxs that I can’t stand is when someone wears a short T-shirt, sometimes just a tight tanktop, leggings and a pair of UGGs. I just don’t get it, it’s not flattering at all. Don’t even get me started with the someone wearing a belly shirt and leggings…

  17. Kelly says:

You look stunning! What brand are the leggings?

  18. This outfit is perfection!!!! Oh how I wish I had your legs!

  19. Amanda says:

Thanks so much for the kind words on my blog. Your blog is beautiful and so are you! Love love! 🙂

    Looking good dear!

  22. Ashley says:

I feel the same way about leggings and other skin-tight pants. It’s even worse when they’re worn to the gym and the person bends over. And they’re sheer.

    • Quentin says:

Undeniably believe that which you said. Your forvaite reason appeared to be on the web the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people think about worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

  23. Heidi says:

They look great on you! Love your vest! I just bought one this weekend that I am obssessed with! -Heidi http://fabricandfrosting.blogspot.no/

  24. Basically B says:

  25. Marshall says:

  26. Bridget says:

this outfit is awesome. you’ve done it again! such an eye for fashion. and your hair looks awesome too!

  27. Shannon says:

This outfit looks totally amazing on you! I love how you mixed lace, leather and the vest! Just amazing.

  28. Mary says:

I have to disagree. I wear leggings as pants daily. If they don’t reveal an underwear line, or show any belly, I don’t think there’s a difference between leggings and skinny jeans except for fabric type and zippers.
What an unfair statement to say that leggings are TMI, as though stretch cotton is somehow less modest than stretch denim.

    mossandmint.blogspot.com

  29. Now I am singing a song Stevie Nicks/Son Henley song about leather and lace. I remember watching a fashion show on TLC that said leggings are for little girls not woman. I thought it was funny, because leggings and boots is so popular. I like the legging route, because skinny jeans do not work with my body style. Plus, they are more comfortable.

  30. Anna @ IHOD says:

Camille – tights?! Oh my word!

Brooke- saw that alll over the teen crowd last year. Not much creativity that is for sure.

Fair statement Mary! I didn’t say they were less modest, only that there are definately types that hug the outlines of your of every detail of that area versus denim which smoothes and supports, and is more flattering. I actually see a big difference between tight cotton with no pockets or zippers to stretch denim. Just was sharing a pet peeve, not demanding that everyone should take the same opinion. You might be wearing a type that doesn’t do such, so it might be different!

Ultimately, I am just as guilty of fashion faux pas from the next girl:)

  31. Shea Sayers says:

I don’t think I’ve ever seen leather leggings look so chic and classy–you definitely pulled it off! I love how the lacy top balances out the leggings and vest too, this is such an awesome look
    Anna!

  32. Such a cool outfit. Love the leather mixed with lace.

  33. K. I swore I’d never buy leggings and did.
Severely pregnant. Didn’t expect to leave the house. Had a long shirt over them but didn’t realize until I walked over to my neighbors that I was wearing them. I was so embarrassed. It felt like I had left the house naked.
    Shame on me!

I’m soooo with you on the leggings and short shirt deal. So unfortunate. lol.

I absolutely love this look. I might have to try this one myself too!

  40. Yeeeeessss! Leggings are NOT pants! I have been delivering this PSA for a couple of years now. I mean really what can people be thinking??! You, however, look divine in this outfit. Well done!

  41. sherri lynn says:

Cute leather leggings! And I agree – leggings are NOT pants! I have seen way too many ladies trying to pull that one off!

  42. Jenmarie says:

Those leather leggings are amazing and I LOVE that you paired it with lace. You look super cute!

  43. You look lovely and I always shy away from the leather leggins but this might push me to try out!!

And NO leggins are not pants and I guess lots of people have not figure that one out yet.

  44. Lexi says:

Leggings as pants drive me nuts! I absolutely hate it. Tunic or dress is the only acceptable topper for leggings. And that lace tunic is beautiful!
    ♡ Lexi @ Glitter, Inc.

  45. I love that vest!

  46. Krystal says:

  47. Megan says:

i LOVE leggings, but i agree… not pants! i own a really cute black pair with ruching on the ankles, but my problem is, i have a long torso and most of the “long tunic” tops don’t cover my rear end! advice on where to find long, affordable tops would be appreciated!

  48. Krista says:

    Amen on the leggings issue!

  49. deertale says:

Leggings done right! You go girl! I have poo pooed leggings for the majority of their popularity, but this post has me thinking very seriously about them! Thanks for the inspiration Anna!
